Dark, Dreary Living Room
This was a great sized living room with plenty of space to relax in. Large, south facing patio doors lead out onto the front terrace and a huge picture window to the side of this faced east. The light should have streamed in. But unfortunately, it didn’t.
The room felt incredibly dark and mismatched as two walls had been painted dark brown and two were pea green. An unusual combination to say the least.
Letting the Light In
It took many a coat of paint to banish the deep paint colours. But once the walls were painted white, the whole room felt incredibly light, bright and cheerful.
Dark, Dated Fire Surround
The fireplace was essentially in good order, so it made every sense to keep it, however the fire surround was dark and dated.
Giving the Fire Place a New Glow
Painting the fire surround white, gave the room an incredible lift. Small changes like this can change the whole character of a room. It’s not difficult either. I rubbed it down lightly with fine sandpaper and painted it with a coat of multi-surface primer, Rust-Oleum do a good one. Then a couple of coats of eggshell gave it a lovely soft satin finish that’s hardwearing too.
New carpet, denim blue curtains and colour pop accessories in bright pink and blue completed the look.
