The time has come. My two watering cans have valiantly endured many a harsh coastal winter, but this one will be their last. They have put in many year’s distinguished service and thanks to them, everything from micro seedlings to mega palms have been well watered and have thrived.
Goodbye to the Old Watering Cans
Now though, both watering cans have cracked under the strain, quite literally. Water flows out as quickly as I pour it in and not in a good way. I can only take a few steps away from the tap before water begins to haemorrhage dramatically from the base. I can barely make it to my first pot of seedlings with any water still remaining in the can.
New Watering Can Choices
Being the practical sort, I’ll probably replace like with like and buy a couple of inexpensive ones again, but I couldn’t help but take a look at what else is available and believe me, you really can buy some jazzy watering cans now.
Here’s a quick look at some of my favourites.
This retro inspired watering can would be an ideal gift for the cottage gardener.
If it’s a ‘designer’ watering can you’re after, then look no further than this snazzy orange embossed Orla Kiely model.
For bird lovers, this bronze effect duckling should make light work of watering.
Or you could try an elephant watering can, just the job when the weather’s been as dry as dry as an African savanna.
And finally, for budding green fingers, this fun watering can comes complete with a packet of giant sunflowers and a tape measure to keep a watchful eye on how tall the new seeds are growing.
